{"id":4998,"date":"2026-03-24T13:06:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T16:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/24cevent.com\/por-que-el-monitoreo-no-me-esta-sirviendo\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T11:39:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T14:39:09","slug":"por-que-el-monitoreo-no-me-esta-sirviendo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/24cevent.com\/en\/por-que-el-monitoreo-no-me-esta-sirviendo\/","title":{"rendered":"Why is monitoring not working for me?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This is a more common question than it seems.<\/p>\n\n<p>And it is almost always accompanied by phrases like:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8220;we have many alerts&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;no one checks them&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;we found out anyway from the users&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;in the end it doesn&#8217;t do much good&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>But here is something important:<\/p>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>the problem is almost never the monitoring itself<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In simple<\/h1>\n\n<p>Monitoring fails when:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>is incorrectly configured<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>generates too much noise<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>no clear responsibility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>is not connected to a stock<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 It&#8217;s not the tool. It&#8217;s how you use it. <\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The myth: &#8220;the tool is useless&#8221;.<\/h1>\n\n<p>Today there are very powerful tools available:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zabbix.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zabbix<\/a><\/strong> (infrastructure)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nagios.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nagios<\/a><\/strong> (traditional monitoring)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prtg.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PRTG<\/a><\/strong> (fast and simple sensors)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.datadog.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Datadog<\/a><\/strong> (modern observability)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dynatrace.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dynatrace<\/a><\/strong> (Advanced APM)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newrelic.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Relic<\/a><\/strong> (telemetry and performance)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>All of them work well.<\/p>\n\n<p>All detect problems.<\/p>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 So why don&#8217;t they help?<\/p>\n\n<p>Because detecting is not the same as managing.<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The real problem: too many alerts<\/h1>\n\n<p>One of the most common mistakes: to monitor everything&#8230; without criteria.<\/p>\n\n<p>Result:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>hundreds or thousands of alerts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>false positives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>irrelevant notifications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>equipment fatigue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Nobody knows what is really important<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lack of context<\/h1>\n\n<p>Another common situation:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an alert arrives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>but it doesn&#8217;t explain much<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The team has to:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>search for information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cross-reference data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 time is lost before action is taken<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">No clear responsibility<\/h1>\n\n<p>Monitoring detects.<\/p>\n\n<p>But it does not decide.<\/p>\n\n<p>Then this happens:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the alert arrives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>but no one responds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or everyone assumes that someone else will<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>and the problem continues to grow<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">No flow of action<\/h1>\n\n<p>Many monitoring implementations end up like this:<\/p>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 detect \u2192 report \u2192 end<\/p>\n\n<p>But the most important thing is missing:<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>what happens next<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>who takes the alert<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what is done<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>when to climb<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how to follow up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 without this, monitoring is incomplete.<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So why is it &#8220;no good&#8221;?<\/h1>\n\n<p>Because monitoring alone does not solve anything.<\/p>\n\n<p>It is only the first step.<\/p>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Detecting is easy<br\/>\ud83d\udc49 Reacting well is the hard part \ud83d\udc49 Reacting well is difficult<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to improve this?<\/h1>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reduce noise<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>remove irrelevant alerts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>adjust thresholds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>prioritize what is important<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 less alerts, more focus.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Add context<\/h2>\n\n<p>Each alert should respond:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>what happened<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how serious it is<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>which systems are affected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what to do<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 do not force the team to investigate from scratch.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Define responsible parties<\/h2>\n\n<p>Each alert must have:<\/p>\n\n<p>someone to take it<\/p>\n\n<p>And if you do not respond:<\/p>\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 automatic scaling<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4.
